In my first career I was a music business executive in Nashville, TN where I started and grew successful music companies. I had the good fortune to publish and produce many very talented and successful artists in both secular and Christian music. I still count many of them as friends and colleagues. Bill and Gloria Gaither, Steven Curtis Chapman, DC Talk and Charlie Daniels are some that have played a part in giving me insight and encouragement, being friends not only to me, but to my family, as well.
After selling one of the music businesses I had started, I moved with my wife and two children to Breckenridge, CO in 1994. My goal was to reach out to a post modern, and mostly a post Christian culture, primarily young adults. I began to build support and develop a strategic plan for a Para-church outreach in the ski resort community, desiring to point them to God in a space that was considered safe and non judgmental. The House with the Red Door became that safe place for young adults: a safe place, a resource and catalyst for positive change. We shared the gospel message in ways that was inviting and encouraging, a message that offered new beginnings. We encouraged spiritual development as a way of life, a lived prayer. The HRD raised support to purchase a permanent location and employee five staff members. There were as many as eighty volunteers a year working to serve the needs of our guests. It was during the planning of the HRD that I entered into an intentional time of discernment with the Rector of the Episcopal Church in Breckenridge and was ordained in 2000.
The Most Reverend Rowan Williams has said, “We have to ask whether we are capable of moving towards a more ‘mixed economy’—recognizing church where it appears and having the willingness and the skill to work with it. Mission, it’s been said, is finding out what God is doing and joining in.”
As a Rector I am missional and encourage the growth of Spirit shaped disciples in all nations and tribes. I am a spiritual guide in the faith community, offering leadership and direction through a variety of theological and interpersonal skills. I encourage a living faith of spiritual growth that does not remain static or underdeveloped. Through example I am an advocate of outreach as a critical component of spiritual life and character.
Since my childhood I have been interested in technology and have become skilled in both technology and communications. I am excited to find forward leading ways to use technology as a means to share the gospel message.
I have a successful history of empowering and developing leaders for various ministries and in encouraging new leadership for yet to be developed ministries. I believe in and encourage lifestyle evangelism, in spending time with people wherever they are and encouraging them with their beginning steps of faith, “finding out what God is doing and joining in.”
